| Children who experience psychological and emotional turmoil, discipline problems, and other related issues need effective counseling/tutorial programs. Effective counseling/tutoring programs support and assist students from grade school through college. These particular programs can turn obstacles into celebrated victories and challenges into successful outcomes. The students experience many challenges and obstacles that affect their educational academic performance and abilities, as well as their behavior.;The purpose of this experimental study was to test the Achievement Goal Theory that compares the counseling/tutorial program to the students' improved behavior and enhanced academic performance in 5th-grade reading for selected at-risk students at an elementary school. This study yielded statistically significant results between the mean post-test scores and post-test behavior assessment scores of Group A (treatment group) and Group B (control group). The counseling/tutorial intervention model Group A's (treatment group) had a definite positive impact on improved behavior and enhanced academic performance in reading. |
