Abstract/Summary:
Student Satisfaction Inventory (SSI) data was collected from 100 Delaware State University (DSU) international students who were members of the DSU International Student Organization in 2007-2008. The inventory focused on thirteen student support services categories. These data were compared to a similar survey conducted at 4 year colleges and universities in the nation. The demographic analysis centered on males, females, freshman, sophomore, junior, and seniors. For each of the survey items DSU international students were asked on a seven-point scale to indicate how important the 13 areas of student satisfaction were to them and to also rate their level of satisfaction on these items. "Gaps" between levels of importance and levels of satisfaction indicate the extent to which students' actual experiences meet their expectations. This study also presents focus group results of DSU international students.;The Student Satisfaction Inventory (SSI) and focus group data for this study reveal that Delaware State University (DSU) could further support international students by responding to the service needs. International Students reported very high satisfaction with academic advising and instructional effectiveness, but were least satisfied with recruitment and financial aid and immigration services. The participants' responses to the focus group interviews supported the findings of the SSI.
