To improve and enhance Taiwan's high-tech industry, a feasible and effective approach was needed to increase competitive businesses' advantage and extend their value chains. The main purpose of this research was to obtain a better understanding of goal setting in order to understand how to motivate employees in high-tech industry effectively, bring about new developments in team building, and achieve organizational commitment, thereby increasing job performance. The research question examined the linkage of job performance to goal setting, work motivation, team building, and organizational commitment in the field of high-tech industry in Taiwan.; A survey search design was adopted in this research in order to test the conceptual model. Samples were selected using random sampling method from the R&D managers in the field of high-tech industry, covering science parks in Taiwan. We developed questionnaire and pre-tested it in order to assure its reliability and validity.; Five scales were used in this research to collect the necessary data, i.e. a goal-setting questionnaire, a work-motivation questionnaire (including the Hackman-Oldham Job Diagnostic Survey and Job Design Questionnaire), a team-building questionnaire (including the Organizational Support Questionnaire, Effective Membership Questionnaire, Team Readiness Survey, Empowerment Questionnaire, and Teamwork Questionnaire), an organizational-commitment questionnaire, and a job-performance questionnaire (including the Job Satisfaction Questionnaire, Organizational Effectiveness Questionnaire, and Productivity Questionnaire). The hypotheses were tested through statistical analyses, including factor analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and LISREL analysis in AMOS.; This research answered the research question of "what is the linkage of job performance to goal setting, work motivation, team building, and organizational commitment in the field of high-tech industry in Taiwan". The results verified the interrelationships among relevant research variables and factors for goal setting, work motivation, team building, organizational commitment, and job performance. In addition, the results provided high-tech industries with an effective approach to create high performance teams in order to increase employees' satisfaction, team effectiveness, and productivity; as some indices reach the lower receivable limit, there is room to further revise and develop a more precise framework.; In conclusion, this research recommends that high-tech industries hire managers that are young and untenured as it is the "drive to succeed" that will lead to future success, rather than hiring those who are able to rest on their laurels, and hence, no longer feel a strong need to go the extra mile in time and effort for the company benefit as they can feel comfortable basking in the glory of past accomplishment.
