Abstract/Summary:
This study formulated a phenomenological description of the essential structure of Information technology (IT) consulting organizations' internal work environments, specifically job satisfaction and leadership styles of Generation X leaders. The study intended to help IT consulting organizations understand how a leader's performance can be influenced when retaining talented and satisfied IT professionals becomes a challenge. Businesses and organizations have realized that the leadership styles, behaviors, and characteristics of Generation X executives will influence existing best business practices for the next 50 years (Leon, cited in Tapscott, 1999). The study addressed the research question: How do Generation X leaders, who exercise different styles of leadership, in the IT consulting industry perceive job satisfaction? Job satisfaction focused on professional growth opportunities and compensation packages as the primary predictors for job satisfaction.
