Abstract/Summary:
This study aimed to explore the drug abuse situation in Hong Kong secondary school students; and the relationship between risk factors and protective factors; and the interaction of students' resilience, risk factors and protective factors. This study chose the “Youth Health Behaviour Survey” as a tool to investigate, students were asked to complete a self-administered online questionnaire Survey was conducted from May to July, 2010, the sample in this study chose 31 secondary schools. Two age groups of students were chosen, including 2084 for 14-year-old student (form 2) and 1466 for 16-year-old student (form 4)(N=3550).;Through exploratory (EFA) and confirmatory (CFA) statistical analysis, the major findings of this study were summaried as follows:;1) There were negative relationships between resilience (self-efficacy and values) and drug abuse.;2) There were negative relationships between protective factors (parent support, school support and peer support) and drug abuse; especially school support had the most significant direct effect on drug abuse.;3) There were positive relationships between risk factors (anxiety/depression, peer influence and pressure to learn) and drug abuse; especially peer influence had the most significant direct effect on drug abuse.;4) Resilience and protective factors were significant predictors of drug abuse, showing negative correlation.;5) The stronger risk factors, the stronger possibilities of drug abuse.;6) Resilience as a mediator effect between risk factors and drug abuse demonstrated a slight positive force to help reduce drug abuse.;7) The background variables (grades, gender and family affluence scale) had different effects on drug abuse.
