The formation and development of business school curriculum in Meiji-era

Abstract/Summary:
This paper attempts to clarify the process of forming and developing of business school curriculum in Meiji-era, firstly making up for our modern history of public education in Japan, which has a blank for business education in "Gakusei-period" by noticing the subject "Bookkeeping" as it was provided in the curriculum of "Joutou-shougaku" (Lower elementary school), "Katou-chugaku" (Lower middle school) and "Joutou-chugaku" (Upper middle school), secondly illustrating the structure and character of business school curriculum, which had been formed in Meiji-era as secondary education level and proving its process by using materials such as official gazettes and school textbooks.;And business school had been legally and socially recognized as secondary education level by "Chouhei-rei" (Act of Draft) and "Bunkann-ninnyou-rei" (Law of Civil-servant appointment), by application of which business school curriculum had markedly been improved and raised.;So since the year 1897 or so, Tokyo Higher Business School had been influenced by business education in Europe and America, which had been developed in those days, and the developing process of business school curriculum as higher education is analyzed and proved by the record of school history. The developing process of business school curriculum is situated as the separation of higher business school curriculum from secondary business school one.
