Abstract/Summary:
This study deals with internet technologies and their applications to education. This study is of distance learning is strictly focused on a quantitative analysis of outcomes in an internet course compared with outcomes in an identical course taught in a traditional classroom setting. The study was done in a very unique set of circumstances that eliminated all variables except the mode of delivery. To further verify the findings of this study, the students who participated in the classes in the study were followed into their next mathematics course. Their success and retention rates in their next mathematics course are included in the study. Background information on the students in the classes in this study and on community college students nationwide is also cited to assess the appropriate level at which the findings of this study can be expected to apply to other students.
