| Various techniques using supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) and supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) were developed for the analysis of nitro- and nitroso-containing compounds. A chemiluminescence detector, the thermal energy analyzer (TEA), was coupled with SFC for the analysis of explosives and propellants and the tobacco specific nitrosamines in environmental tobacco smoke (ETS). SFE/gas chromatography with a thermal desorption modulator was coupled with the TEA for the analysis of explosives in soil.
