Abstract/Summary:
A multiple reaction grain model with a distribution of grain sizes was formulated and investigated numerically and experimentally. Two subsidiary models were formulated and solved numerically in order to investigate the effects of experimental conditions on each component independently. In addition a subsidiary model for a single particle size was formulated and solved. All equations are presented in dimensionless form in order to develop characteristic dimensionless groups and universality. Experiments on the reduction of NiO-Fe(,2)O(,3) mixtures with H(,2) and the dissolution of Ni-Fe mixtures with sulfuric acid solutions was performed. The experimental work was intended to verify the above models and indicate the applicability of similar studies for multi-component ores.
