Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this investigation was to study the use of management science technology by middle managers in child welfare organizations in the State of Maryland.; A survey research design was used to test the hypotheses. The dependent variable was use of management science technology. The independent variables were educational preparation; perceived value of the management science technology; analytical and heuristic cognitive style; executive level commitment and support; and management style of top level executives. An instrument was developed to gather data from a population of 62 middle managers relevant to the study hypotheses. A median reliability coefficient alpha was determined, using five of the study variables. Multiple regression analysis was used to test the hypotheses.; The study indicated that there is an emphasis on the use of management science tools in child welfare systems and the educational preparation of managers in the application of these tools. The results showed a positive correlation between Executive Commitment and Support, Perceived Value of the Technology, Analytical Cognitive Style, Theory Z Management Style, Laissez-Faire, and Autocratic Management Style and the use of the management science technology.; It suggests that training and education of administrators in the knowledge of management science technologies should be associated with other organizational factors which are needed to support the accomplishment of organizational results. The; technologies are tools of the manager and not a substitute for management.; *No. 157...
