Abstract/Summary:
The use and implementation of evidence-based practices (EBP) in the community corrections environment has become the new operational expectation. Simply using EBP, however, is no longer sufficient. Community corrections practitioners now must adhere to the science of implementation, as it has emerged as a critical component of EBP effectiveness. Implementation Science is not only concerned with the use of EBP, but also the process and the context within which they are implemented. Organizational culture must be viewed as a critical contributor to this context; however there is a dearth of academic research that investigates the connection between organizational culture and successful adherence to the drivers of Implementation Science in community corrections. The present study sought to close this gap by taking a quantitative approach and examining the relationship between culture type, as determined by the Competing Values Framework, and successful adherence to the drivers of Implementation Science in three Colorado community corrections facilities. Results of the study suggest the Clan and Adhocracy cultures are positively related and the Hierarchy culture is negatively related to the drivers of implementation. The results inform community corrections leaders and practitioners of the characteristics they should build into their organizational cultures to maximize EBP implementation success.
