The study was a quantitative investigation of the relationship between workplace incivility components and Burnout dimensions among professional firefighters. Instruments included the Workplace Incivility Scale (WIS), modified versions of the WIS, and the Maslach Burnout Inventory Human Services Questionnaire (MBI-HSS). The research was conducted in the Midwestern United States among professional firefighters (N = 122) using an Internet-based questionnaire service. Results indicated that workplace incivility components were not significantly correlated with Burnout dimensions among the professional firefighter participants. These ?ndings suggest that workplace conditions, experiences, attitudes, and social support among professional firefighters might moderate the effects of negative interpersonal workplace mistreatment and exposure to traumatic events. |
