Abstract/Summary:
Students in the Montabella Community School District were tested in 1986 to determine whether self-concept could be affected by their participation in a 30 hour course module in positive attitude awareness.;The purpose of the study was to compare levels of self-concept among high school and adult education students, following their participation in a positive attitude program which incorporated positive reinforcement techniques and the group dynamic process. All students participating in the program were pre-tested and post-tested to measure changes in their self-image. Marked changes occurred in the adolescent group compared to the adult group. Positive changes in both groups took place following positive self-concept exercises and positive reinforcement techniques. Alteration in self-concept were also observable and measurable by behavioral changes in the classroom. One teacher monitored changes in skill deficits and grade point averages in the classroom during and following the positive attitude program implementation. The changes were considerable.
