Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this study was to determine guidelines for a model undergraduate business administration program applicable to colleges and universities in the West Bank of Jordan. Based on all available data including the review of relevant literature, examination of the situation of higher education in the West Bank of Jordan, examination of undergraduate business administration programs in major universities in the West Bank, examination of exemplary undergraduate business administration programs in the American universities as perceived by Hunger-Whelan and Gourman to serve as an outside-of-West Bank guide to a quality business administration program, and through an empirical field study, the model was constructed and recommended for application.;Analysis of the data used in this study provided the following conclusions: (1) There was an urgent need for developing and improving the conditions of higher education in the West Bank of Jordan in general, and education for business administration as it relates to the study in particular. (2) Other than preparing students for the field of business administration, schools of business administration in the West Bank did not state any clear set of goals and objectives nor specify the nature of their business administration programs. (3) On the basis of the perceptions of the respondents, there seemed to be general agreement that business programs in the West Bank were lacking a practical approach to business. Development of "attitude" toward jobs, training for career in business, and the importance of an internship-cooperative program as part of a student's learning experience were highly recommended by respondents. (4) A quality faculty and updated curriculum that can meet the needs of students and the business community were the bases for a business administration program for colleges and universities that aspire toward excellence.;Forty-one business administration and related areas faculty members responded to a questionnaire which examined the purpose of a business administration program, curriculum, admission criteria, internship-cooperative experiences, functions of business administration faculty, and the objectives of business administration programs at the West Bank universities at the time of the study.
