Abstract/Summary:
This study investigates mainly the relationships between organizational culture and job satisfaction in three selected type of industries in Greece. In addition, it investigates the effect of certain demographic and situational characteristics, such as, sex, age, type of industry, educational qualifications, length of working experience, and type of employment in job satisfaction. Finally, an exploratory attempt of is made to find out the best linear combination of certain demographic and situational characteristics and scores in job satisfaction to predict employees desired organizational culture, in order to use it in future recruitment and appraisal procedures. A job satisfaction instrument (Employee Satisfaction Inventory) was constructed and standardized on a Greek sample of employees. This measure (ESI) assesses satisfaction on seven specific areas: organization as a whole, working conditions, pay, work itself, promotion, supervision, and co-workers. The results showed that there was a significant difference (p<.01) in satisfaction with the work itself, co-workers, and promotion among employees who operate in different organizational culture. Also, it was found that when employees have a match-up between their present and desired culture (psychological contract), they are more satisfied with the intrinsic aspect of their work (work itself). In addition, significant differences in job satisfaction were found among employees with different demographic and situational characteristics (p<.01). Finally, it was found that we can predict employees desired organizational culture from certain demographic and situational characteristics and scores in job satisfaction.
