Abstract/Summary:
Is business ethics part of the decision-making process by Millennial generation entrepreneurs? This qualitative study examines ethics as part of the decision-making process for Millennials (Gen Y). The existing body of research has identified the definitions and categories of business ethics and establishes a baseline to investigate if business ethics is important to Millennial generation entrepreneurs. The purpose of the research is to identify if business ethics is a part of the decision-making process for Millennials who start their own businesses. In-depth interviews were used to collect data from the perspectives of Millennial generation entrepreneurs born between 1980 and 1990, who live in the United States. Data collected identifies the categories of business ethics, the importance of business ethics, how business ethics are used as a decision making tool, and how business ethics was influential in the decision making process to start a business. The participants provided detail on their personal experiences, values, and expectations from others regarding business ethics. The outcomes of the study indicated that while business ethics were important to participants, their decision making process to start a business did not include business ethics as a factor.
