Study On Evaluation And Protection Of Scientific And Technological Value Of Industrial Heritage

The scientific and technological value of industrial heritage,which is the core value of it,makes the industrial heritage unique among other types of cultural heritages.The classified study of different industries of industrial heritages is one of the essential procedures for industrial heritage protection,due to the historical development,industrial technology and process,as well as the valuable physical evidence are different in different industries.With the perspective of the scientific and technological value,this thesis makes research on the evaluation and protection of industrial heritage through different industries.At the beginning,it studies the value evaluation criterion and systems of Britain,America,Canada and other representative countries.Among these,Britain has formulated the most detailed guidelines for evaluation and protection of industrial heritage.Based on its overall evaluation system,the industrial heritages have been subdivided into different industries for identification the industrial sites the structures in depth,and the industrial technology history and process of different industries have been attached importance to.With the reference and comparison of western countries,this thesis focuses on the scientific and technological value of Chinese industrial heritages which is essential but lack of researches and analyses among Chinese academia,especially the systematic research of Chinese modern technological history.With the viewpoint of scientific and technological value,this thesis takes ten modern industries as case studies,which are including coal mining,ironmaking&steelmaking,ship building& repair,cotton textile,cotton printing and dyeing,silk industry,wool textile,linen textile,and the cement and sulfuric acid industry.Based on the perspective of scientific and technological value and integrity,it analyzes the modern development process,current situation of valuable remains,modern industrial technology and equipment,industrial process and related evidence,core technological evidence,and integrated area of protection according to these ten different industries.On the basis of researches of industry history and technology history,the different emphases of value evaluation of different industries could be explored.The essential physical evidence of industrial heritage protection in different industries could be analyzed,including the core physical evidence,supporting material evidence of auxiliary production,and industrial chain related to the integrity,etc.These conclusions and achievements will provide the theoretical support for the evaluation and protection of industrial heritages,the formulation of conservation planning,aswell as the practical reference for the heritage regeneration.
