Due to the rapid living pace we experienced nowadays,hundred million of peoples being stressed and suffered from mental-illness all around the world.The WHO(World Health Organization)forecasts that the incident rate would be increased even more in the future,and mental-illness would become the most critical disease that make harm to people health.As we know that mental-illness can be occurred in all kind of people,no matter what gender,which age group.The influence of unhealthy emotion may caused the result of committing suicide.Beside of the western medication treatment that may help,our Traditional Chinese Medicine may take an important task in healing such kind of mental-illness.Many classical prescriptions in Zhang Zhong Jing(???)“Shang Han Lun”(???)and“Synopsis of Golden Chamber”(????)are well-known with well efficacy in emotional diseases.“Shang Han Lun”and“Synopsis of Golden Chamber”were written 1800years ago in Eastern Han Dynasty.In the treatise,we can find a large range of contents,describing symptoms of mental-illness.Such as“anxious,irritability”(??)which may occurred all through the six meridians(Including 3 yang:??Tàiyáng,??Yáng míng,??Sh?o yang;and3 yin:??Tàiy?n,??Sh?o y?n,??Juéy?n).As for the“Zang”(organ?),that might occurred in any one of the five organs(heart,liver,spleen,lung and kidney).As for the nature of disease,that could be heat or cold,sthenia syndrome or asthenia syndrome.Disease in different meridians,comes out different clinical manifestation.As the result,“anxious,irritability”(??)occurred mostly in the 3 yang diseases and less in 3 yin diseases.As for the abnormal movement of“qi”would caused the result of despondence of“yang qi”(????),despondence of“heat”(??),despondence of“sputum”(????),etc.As for the condition of disease,“anxious,irritability”(??)might occurred while the“yang qi”(??)recovered,which means that“anxious,irritability”(??)might indicate the advance and retreat of the disease.The second much mentioned symptom in the treatise was dyssomnias(????),both insomnia(???,???)and hypersomnia(??,??,???)can be seen in the six meridian disease.The dyssomnias in 3 yang,mostly caused by the annoying of abnormal heat,lack of body fluid,the fullness of the abdomen.As for the shao yin disease,either abnormal cold or heat in yin might disturb the sleeping status.Many chapters in “Synopsis of Golden Chamber” mentioned dyssomnias as well.The etiology and pathogenesis could be occurred in sthenia syndrome or asthenia syndrome.As for the deficiency syndrome,liver blood deficiency,heart qi deficiency,heart and lung yin deficiency,heart and spleen deficiency,yin and yang deficiency,etc.As for the sthenia syndrome,abnormal heat,sputum,or the disease of lung might caused dyssomnias.The third symptom Zhong Jing mentioned in the treatise was“fright”,which is behave in fear,restless,worried,disturbed sleep,and with the heart beating rapidly like out of control.It was called“B?n tún qì”(???).The symptom seemed to be the same as the panic disorder in the modern medicine.Patient would feel abnormal gas raising up from the abdomen up to the chest or throat,feeling breathless and experienced terrible heart attack just like going to died.Over 1800 years ago,Zhong Jing had the cognition of the panic disorderThe forth symptom in the treatise mentioned,“taciturnity”(??).This term appeared in the treatise 6 times,including chapter in Sh?o yang(??),chapter in Juéy?n(??),chapter in Lily disease(???)and Huhuo disease(???).Patient in the status of“taciturnity”(??),just like the symptom of depression,who behaved in low mood,lack of interest and activity.Those decoctions mentioned in the treatise like Baihe Dihuang decoction,Baihe zhi mu decoction,Xiaochai hu decoction,Gancao xiexin decoction,could be apply for healing depression.There are four kinds of mental-illness mentioned in“Synopsis of Golden Chamber”.The first one,“Lily disease”(???),which may caused eating disorder,dyssomnias,anxiety,and depression.7 decoctions had been mentioned but only 8 kinds of herbs altogether.To change one herb,to change one decoction.Zhong Jing made a good demonstration of how to compose a decoction strictly.To have abnormal feeling in the throat,just like stuck up by a piece of meat,so called“Méi héqì”(???).The symptom of Méi héqìbehaved,like Hysteria,Pharyngeal paraesthesia.Many patients suffering from mental-illness would have such kind of abnormal feeling in the throat,the Banxia Houpo decoction(?????)are well known as the treating decoction in depression or anxiety with such symptom.“B?n tún qì”(???),caused by“fright”,feeling abnormal gas raised from the bottom of abdomen up to the chest or throat.The pathogenesis is the abnormal movement of“qi”.“Organ impatient”(??),always feel upset and fatigued.The clinical manifestation similar to hysteria,depression,anxiety,schizophrenia.“weep for no apparent reason”(??),feel anxious,upset,tend to sleep but with sleep terror,dream anxiety disorder.Both“Organ impatient”(??)and“weep for no apparent reason”(??)are in the same pathogenesis,with heart qi deficiency and liver blood deficiency.Zhong Jing'syndrome differentiation of six meridian theory is a complete system of syndrome differentiation,which consist of“zangfu”(??),“qi and blood”(??).Syndrome differentiation of six meridian theory can apply for any kind of disease but not only the exogenous febrile disease.The basic rule of law is,firstly to differentiate“yin”or“yang”,then to differentiate which meridian that occurred the pathological changes.Each disease of meridian behaves in different clinical manifestation,such as“anxious,irritability”(??),the symptom of 3 yang meridians are completely different from the 3 yin.As for the diabetic depression,Sh?o y?n(??)disease,behaved in deficiency syndrome of the whole body;Juéy?n(??)disease,with abdominal pain and diarrhea;Sh?o yang(??)disease,with eating disorders;Yáng míng(??)disease,with annoying heat;Tàiyáng(??)disease,with head pain.As for the dyssomnias,Tàiyáng(??)disease,the pathogenesis is the unharmony of“ying”(?,the nutrient)“wei”(?,the defensive);Yáng míng(??)disease,sleepless with annoying heat and feel thirsty;Tàiy?n(??)disease,feel cold in the abdomen;Sh?o y?n(??)disease,feel tired and sleepy,with cold hands and feet;Juéy?n(??)disease,feel annoying heat in the upper part of the body,but annoying cold at the lower part with diarrhea.As for the irritable bowel syndrome,IBS,Tàiy?n(??)disease,with abdominal bloating and vomit;Sh?o y?n(??)disease,cold hands and feet,sleepy and weak;Juéy?n(??)disease,with abdominal pain and diarrhea,feeling abnormal gas raising up from the bottom to the chest,etc.As for the hyperthyroidism,the symptom in the early stage just like Yáng míng(??)disease,with annoying heat;in the later stage,became Tàiy?n(??)Sh?o y?n(??)disease.As for the nature of disease,3 yang mostly with heat syndrome and sthenia syndrome;while the 3 yin disease with cold syndrome and asthenia syndrome.In“anxious,irritability”(??),heat syndrome is the majority and mostly occurred in 3 yang disease.As for the irritable bowel syndrome,3 yin disease occurred much more than 3 yang.As for the Qìxuèj?nyè(????),the abnormal movement of“qi”(?)is the important etiology and pathogenesis causing mental disorder,such as“B?n tún qì”(???)and“Méi héqì”(???).The deficiency of“qi”(?)and“blood”(?),make the result of“Organ impatient”(??)and“weep for no apparent reason”(??).The lack of liver blood caused insomnia of Suanzaoren decoction syndrome(?????);the deficiency of heart yin and lung yin,caused the Lily disease(???),etc.Abnormal movement of “qi”,caused the abnormal moist and sputum,which is the outcome of the disease and may also be the etiology of all kind of disease including mental disorders.It is much worth to study the rule of law of syndrome differentiation of six meridian.Healing mental disorders by applying Zhong Jing's classical prescriptions are well known with efficacy.
