The Boxer Movement broke out in 1900 in the North China,which had extensive contacts with the British Empire.As the initiator of aggression China,Britain invaded China since the Opium War in 1840,it had a huge investment in China,and grabbed many privileges.But at the end of the nineteenth century,naval strength was no longer outstanding,which made it lost a lot in the game between Britain and other powers in the Far East.During the Boxer Movement,all the west countries hoped to expand the interests further in China.Facing the complicated situation,Britain was not only the earliest country sending troops to Dagu port,but also the strong vanguard of suppressing Chinese anti-imperialist patriotic movement.When Admiral Seymour led the Eight Power Allied forces into Beijing,the British also secretly encouraged Japan leaving for North China,but the suggestion was opposed by the other great powers.Therefore,Britain had to change the requirements for the Japanese troops into her colonies.Then,"the China Expeditionary Force"mainly by British Indian army and Anglo Australian Navy as the backbone to response to Far East Crisis,which played an important role in 1900.At the same time,Britain ploted the "mutual protection in the Southeast",but the attempt to monopolize the Yangtze River Basin was aborted owing to the resistance from powers.Afterwards,the British felt deeply that the "Splendid Isolation" policy was very difficult to adapt to the international situation,especially the changes of situation in the Far East,Therefore,Britain made adjustments to the traditional foreign policy.During the Boxer Movement,the British diplomats,missionaries and journalists's reports about Boxer movement had far-reaching influence on the"China view" and the diffusion of "Yellow Peril".
