A Narratological Study Of Magical Realism Novels

Magic Realism Literature is the most representative literary school in Latin America.Magic realism as it's an artistic technique,world outlook,mode of thinking and narrative type,has had many influences on world literature and art.The magic narrative represented by magic realism novel has formed a highly recognizable narrative type because of its rich and unique narrative methods.From the perspective of narratology,this paper refines,explains and analyzes the basic types and functions of magic narrative literature through the close reading and analysis of the representative works of magic realism literature and its extended forms.On this basis,the author puts forward a general idea of constructing magic narratology and the of basic framework magic narratology from the perspective of typology.The first chapter is the preparation of the topic,It combs meaning of magic realism and the historical context as a narrative type narrative genre.Defines the basic connotation of "magic realism" and "magic narrative" discussed in this paper and gives a specific explanation.The word "magic realism" overlaps of the meanings of "painting style","artistic tendency","outlook on life and world outlook,"narrative style","narrative genre" and "attitude to reality" in different contexts.So it is first defined that"magic realism literature" in this paper refers to Latin American literature which is regarded as one of the literary schools.Secondly,this paper defines the basic concept of"magic realism" and "magic narrative" with and detailed explanations.This chapter combined with the premise of the juxtaposition of original and modern perspectives in magical realism novels,from the perspective of narratology,this paper refines the characteristics of "story","discourse" and "fabula" of magic narrative,with this as the standard,this paper divides divides magic narrative into three basic types: the dialogue narrative in "multiple chronotope",the paradoxical narration caused by the wandering of narrative subject and the conflict of interpretive code,the Restructuring and repairing stories provided by the invisible narrative layer.On this basis,two typical expand form extension forms of magic narrative are refined: Magic narrative empty set and magic narrative game.The second chapter to the fourth chapter is the expansion part of the thesis.The second chapter analyzes the first basic type of magic narrative from the perspective of Narratology: "dialogue narration in Multiple chronotope".The chapter combines the novels Pedro Paramo by Mexican writers,Juan Rulfo and El se?or presidente by Miguel ángel Asturias.The chapter analyzes the ghost narrative and multi story and the "multiple chronopope" which is commonly existed in the magic narrative,and explains the dialogue form among the "block characterization",event,historical narration and truth story in the "multiple chronopope".The dialogue and narrative function among the "block characterization of deceased persons",historical narrative and fabulous story are analyzed as important aspects.The third chapter analyzes the second basic type of magic narrative from the perspective of Narratology: "the paradoxical narration caused by the wandering of narrative subject and the conflict of interpretive code." This chapter is based on Crónica de una muerte anunciada by Columbian Writer,Garcia Marquez and Hombres de maíz by Miguel ángel Asturias.This paper analyzes the complicated conflicts of narrative ethics between narrative subjects(narrator,focalizer,character,implied author)in magic narration.This conflict is mainly manifested in the transformation of narrative subject,the bidirectional schema of actants,the wandering of reliable and unreliable narrative,and the paradoxical meaning of space and place.The fourth chapter is based on El se?or presidente and Hombres de maíz by Miguelángel Asturias,Como Agua para Chocolate by Laura Esquivel,la casa de los espirtus by Isabel Allende and El Amor en los Tiempos del Cólera by Gabriel García Márquez,which helps to analyze the "reconstruction" and "repair" of collective and individual memory accomplished by the invisible narrative layer composed of magical discourse elements such as fragments and fictional time and space.The fifth chapter is a concrete extension of the thesis.Discusses the expansion form of magic narrative.Based on the relative certainty of the boundary of "magic realism literature" and the definition of "magic narration" in the first chapter,cultural basis of "magic " and the meaning of "reality" have been expanded.It involves the classic "magic realism literature" which is included in the thesis to ensure the integrity of the thesis.Jorge Luis Borges and Julio Cortazar's short novels represent this idea,which is to describe the invisible but theoretically possible world in reality.The description of the world reflects the magic narrative mode,which is as follows: the fractal story construction movement and the "open" narrative empty collection;the iteration of narrative empty concentrated story and the recursion of truth with the event of cycle;the creation of aesthetic distance between narrative subjects and the narrative subjects and the readers,expressions of the essence of the subject vacancy and weaves the infinite narrative game.This kind of magic narrative shows the philosophical characteristics of magic narrative through special story form in order to think about the universe model,narrative and existence.In the fourth chapter,on the basis of refining the basic types and expanding forms of magic narrative and analyzing their narrative functions,combined with the disciplinary context and development trend of narratology,a theoretical conception is put forward: from the perspective of typology,the narrative theory with "magic narrative" as the research object is constructed,therefore,the significance of this conception and the basic framework of magic narratology are explained.
