Aesthetic education,innovation education,and interdisciplinary education have gradually shown increasingly important roles in universities in the new era.It urges design education to enter general education from the professional field.Design in general education for non-professional students is developing rapidly,becoming a new phenomenon in the development of design education and design disciplines.However,the academic cognition and research on it is still lacking.Therefore,based on its development history and current situation,with conceptual analysis and design research,a theoretical study of its conceptual connotation,course content construction,and project design method has been carried out,and the following conclusions have been reached:Design in general education is the design education with design discipline as the medium and aesthetic education as the purpose of educating people.It shows the reciprocating movement of design education as an interdisciplinary exploration activity between vocational education and liberal arts.Returning to aesthetic education is not only its application function,but also reveals the internal origin of the cultivation of design creativity and the value origin of design as a humanities.Under the vision of education and discipline,the content of design course in general education can be divided into three levels: design language,design return and design freedom.Its knowledge form should be the breakthrough and penetration within the discipline,the crossover and intersection outside the discipline,and its core ability is the generation of design form thinking.Through the training of "perception-media-abstraction","meaning-symbol-narration","technology-structure-sy stem" and "concept-reconstruction-generation" four form thinking,we can establish the extensive connection between the whole person development and body,culture,technology and concept,which is not only the characteristic of design education,but also the driving force of the development of design discipline itself.The project design method of design course in general education corresponds to the core content and content level of the course,which is manifested as a micro-level design method based on specific content and a meso-level design method based on application context.But on the macro-level,the essence of general subject design is not only "research on design education",but also ""research on design ".As the"form" of humanistic instructional design,the subject has four characteristics of media,meaning,structure and concept in the abstract level,which opens up the possibility of richer understanding of subject design in the abstract level.
