Individualization And Informal Support For Urban Older Adults

This article is discussed about the experience of aging people in ST District, Baoshan of Shanghai. This article attempts to explain the problems and difficulties encountered of urban elderly in the informal support of family and community. It emphasises on the urban informal support for older persons to families, informal support neighborhood attitude, identity, and behavioral logic. I chose the individualization as an analytical tool for the phenomenon of informal support. Power-consultation theory, exchange theory and family community theory are Western sociological theories of informal social support on the interpretation. These theories focus on the support network and family as the research object, and lake of the object-the elderly individual's subjective feelings and behavior logic in the concern, focus on the analysis of family structure and function, and lack of a dynamic picture of family interaction. Individualization turns into a new theory of types in sociological research. This theory advocates a dynamic interaction study between the individual and the family. This theory focus shifted from the family to the individual. Domestic research of the elderly informal support shows many social conflicts, and these social phenomena also appear in my investigation. Informal support of older persons can be divided into family support and neighborhood support. Family support can be divided into financial support, daily support, endowment support, and spiritual support. Family support also can be divided into the couple's support, child support. The status of the informal support is closely related to individual transformation, the family history and the daily lives. My research show that personal feelings and individual rationality both constituents, personal interests take precedence over family honor, and personal accomplishment oriented neighborhood interaction. These are mechanism of the internal operation in elderly informal support. From the perspective of family functioning, the main problems of informal support come down to personal emotional difficulties. The objective support in the elderly reduces, and emotional support needs increase. Emotional factors are growing importance. The spiritual and emotional well-being is the main source of the family. Meanwhile, individual alienation, loneliness intensified, increasing sense of insecurity about the future, individual alienation, loneliness become a common phenomenon, not only within the family, there are also social. From the perspective of family members, the main problems of informal support come down to the trade-off between personal interests and family honor. The elderly rely more on mutual support between husband and wife, not the child's support. Intergenerational support for the performance of the filial relationship reversed, the elderly expect their children to support, and intergenerational rights and obligations of reducing the imbalance of. When the time does not touch the fundamental interests of the elderly, seniors can choose to take precedence over individual interests of family honor, in order to ensure a harmonious family relations; when touched on the fundamental interests of the elderly, the elderly than the personal interests of the logic of the logic of family honor, the concentrated expression in the elderly dissatisfaction and disappointment of family support and family conflict disputes. From the perspective of neighborhood support, elderly people want to pay and return to the other, and because of their small capital for the exchange of resources and reduce the possibility of seeking support. However, under appropriate conditions, there are elderly people willing to act as an informal support provider, rely on personal spiritual sense of accomplishment and satisfaction rather than material interests to help others. In short, informal social support in the conflicts and contradictions embodied in the daily lives of elderly people actually experience. Informal support is closely related to their emotional, personal interests, individual rights and obligations of family understanding of the intimate relationship between the individual satisfactions. Informal support is closely related with the moral experience, it is precisely in the day to day, and life happens all the time in practice becomes understandable.
