As a traditional agricultural country, agricultural trade has always been an integral part of Thailand's international trade, with import and export volume of agricultural products and processed products constituting a substantive share of Thailand's total import and export volume. The decrease in the price of agricultural products will lead to the reduction in Thailand's GDP,and hence it is important for farmers to promptly find a solution to tackle this issue. In recent years, the share of Thailand's agricultural trade in international trade has declined as the share of agriculture sector in the gross national product has also declined, yet agricultural products remain one of the most important trade products in the world. At present,Thailand and its major trading partners have established many agreements, especially free trade ares, and the sharp decline in tariffs has greatly stimulated the volume and growth of Thailand's agricultural trade with the major trading partners. However, eventhough Thailand has the advantage of grain and fruit production capacity,non-tariff trade barriers have hindered Thailand's export.Presently, grain and fruit products from ASEAN countries are flooding into the international trade market.Thailand's main competitors are Vietnam, the Philippines and other countries, with similar geographical and climatic conditions, resulting in increasingly fierce competition.Currently, competitors continue to improve planting technology, improve product quality, and have hightened understanding of Thailand's major trading partners' s consumer markets and market expectations. Therefore,it is necessary to conduct an in-depth study on the production and potential of Thailand's grain and fruit products, including the thee major trade partners' market for grain and fruit products.Based on the combination of theory and practice, this paper uses the gravity model and various feasible variables for empirical analysis, especially the in-depth and systematic analysis and research on Thailand and its main trading partners' “free trade area”,with results indicating of a significant promotional effect on the grain and fruit trade. In addition,an internal and external analysis on the factors and cause affecting Thailand's grain and fruit trade was conducted from the theoretical and empirical perspectives,in order to come up with countermeasures and policy recommendations for the promotion of Thailand's grain and fruit trade development. The logic of the research is as follows:Firstly, the first three chapters of the thesis expound on the preliminary preparatory work of this paper with explaination on the theoretical basis of the research. The fourth chapter expounds on the current status of Thailand's agricultural trade from statistical data to explain the current status of Thailand's grain and fruit trade.Chapter five analyzes the trade in agricultural products between Thailand and its major trading partners, focuses on the status of trade in grain and fruit products on both sides, and explains the grain and fruit related agreements between Thailand and major trading partners. The chapter six applies the commonly used trade relationship index, especially the Revealed Comparative Advantage Index(RCA)and Trade Competitiveness(TC)to empirically analyze the competitive advantages of Thailand's agricultural products with major trading partners. Finally, using the gravity model and different variables, this thesis conducts an empirical analysis on the factors affecting the trade structure of Thailand's grain and fruit trade with the main trading partners, and the main obstacles to the aforementioned trade.Chapter seven concludes the thesis with the proposal of countermeasures and policy recommendations for the promotion of grain and fruit trade with major trading partners in the future.Chapter seven summarizes and expounds on the future research direction of the thesis.
