Urban infrastructure is an important carrier of various social and economic activities in a city.Urban infrastructure must have sufficient carrying capacity to achieve the sustainable development goals of urban society,economy and ecology.At present,the concept and connotation of urban infrastructure carrying capacity is unclear,and the evaluation of urban infrastructure carrying capacity in academia is not systematic and unclear,leading to blind construction and improper use of infrastructure.Furthermore,the goal of urban sustainable development will face major challenges.This article first defines the concept and connotation of "urban infrastructure" and "urban infrastructure carrying capacity",explores the dimensions and carrying mechanism of urban infrastructure carrying capacity,and divides the carrying capacity of urban infrastructure into the carrying capacities in the dimensions of social service,economic efficiency,ecological balance,and comprehensive integration;Then,the mean variance analysis method and the coupling coordination degree method are used to build an analysis model of urban infrastructure social service carrying capacity;A load-carrier model(LCM)and a Super-Window-SBM method were used to construct an analysis model of urban infrastructure economic efficiency carrying capacity;The butterfly catastrophe model was used to construct the analysis model of urban infrastructure ecological balance carrying capacity,and the modified Kaya identity and the Logarithmic Mean Ditch Index method(LMDI)were used to construct an analysis model of the factors affecting the ecological balance carrying capacity of urban infrastructure;The dovetail catastrophe model was used to construct an analysis model of the comprehensive carrying capacity of urban infrastructure.Finally,this paper collects and applies research data from 35 large sample cities in China from 2008 to 2017 to analyze the performance of China’s urban infrastructure carrying capacity empirically.The results of the study include:(1)The social service carrying capacity of urban infrastructure in the sample cities in China generally performed well,but showed the characteristic of "single polarization to the south".(2)The economic efficiency carrying capacity of urban infrastructure in the sample cities in China is greatly affected by the economic location and administrative authority;At the same time,the large-scale infrastructure construction of the sample cities has not significantly improved the economic efficiency carrying capacity of urban infrastructure.(3)The ecological balance carrying capacity of urban infrastructure in the sample cities in China is not optimistic,and the disorderly expansion of infrastructure scale is the main driver.(4)Optimizing the utilization efficiency of urban infrastructure(UE)is one of the most effective ways to promote urban economic development while controlling the disorderly expansion of urban infrastructure;The pursuit of economic output(EO)is the most significant influencing factor leading to the disorderly expansion of urban infrastructure scale;The factor of population expansion(P)is also the main factor that triggers the disorderly expansion of urban infrastructure.(5)The comprehensive carrying capacity of urban infrastructure in sample cities in China is generally low,and there are significant differences among cities,and they are distributed in a "saddle shape".Based on the results of the above analysis,this article puts forward strategy recommendations based on successful experiences or failed lessons for the optimization and improvement of urban infrastructure carrying capacity from the perspective of two aspects including the infrastructure carrier and the acting load:(1)Optimize the spatial structure of urban infrastructure,complement the carrying "short board",and enhance the social service carrying capacity of urban infrastructure;(2)Improve the operation level of urban infrastructure,gather high-quality production factors,achieve high-quality development,and enhance the economic efficiency carrying capacity of urban infrastructure;(3)Coordinate various ecological facilities,build a "park city",and improve the ecological balance carrying capacity of urban infrastructure;(4)Explore a variety of financial channels,practice new methods and paths for urban infrastructure construction,and improve the comprehensive carrying capacity of urban infrastructure.Through the implementation of the above policy measures,the carrying capacity of urban infrastructure can be optimized and improved,thereby achieving the urban sustainable development.
