Under the background of the new development pattern and high-quality development, this study which focuses on that how the informatization influencing the economic growth of urban agglomerations in the central region explores deeply on enhancing the driving force and vitality of regional economic development based on the new futures of the development of urbanization. The study has important theoretical and practical value of the central region in playing an effective role as a core hub of smoothing domestic circulation and an important connecting point of a dual circulation development pattern, alleviating the contradiction of unbalanced regional economic growth, and making further efforts of promoting national modernization in the new era.Basing on the new economic growth theory and new economic geography,by combing the exiting literature on informatization and economic growth, the effect of informatization on the economic growth of urban agglomerations, and establishing the theoretical framework of the impact of informatization on the economic growth of urban agglomeration, this paper puts forward four basic assumptions: positive effect, threshold effect, intermediary effect and spatial spillover effect.Taking the prefecture-level cities included in the six urban agglomerations in the central region from 1999 to 2019 as samples, this paper empirically studies the different effects of informatization on the economic growth of urban agglomerations in the central region by econometric model. We establish a benchmark regression model to investigate the direct effect of informatization on the economic growth of urban agglomeration in Central China;a panel threshold regression model is constructed to explain that the impact of informatization on the economic growth of urban agglomeration has a greater jump around the threshold;a spatial econometric model is constructed to explain the interaction mechanism between the spatial structure of urban agglomeration and its agglomeration scale. Finally, the paper puts forward relevant policy suggestions to promote the development of informatization and urban agglomeration in Central China. The main conclusions of this paper are as follows: first, the informatization development of the six urban agglomerations in the central region is slow, while the economic growth of the six urban agglomerations in the central region slows down. There are also differences in the growth rate of economic scale among urban agglomerations. There is a correlation between informatization and economic growth of urban agglomeration.Second, informatization development has a positive impact on the economic growth of urban agglomerations in the central region. The spillover effect of informatization development level on the quality of economic growth in the central region is strongly dependent on residents' income. The more balanced the income distribution is,the greater the role of informatization in promoting the economic growth of this urban agglomeration. The income gap of urban agglomerations in Central China generally shows a narrowing trend, among which the narrowing trends of Taiyuan urban agglomeration,Poyang Lake urban agglomeration and Central Plain urban agglomeration are very significant.Third, the upgrading of industrial structure and the development of innovation system of urban agglomeration are the concrete paths for informatization to affect the economic growth of urban agglomeration. The benchmark regression results of intermediary effect recursive structural equation model show that with the rise of urban innovation level, the economic growth level of urban agglomeration in Central China will also increase.Fourth, among the six major urban agglomerations in the central region, the multi center structure of information agglomeration plays a stronger role in promoting the economic growth of urban agglomerations.Through the heterogeneity analysis of urban agglomeration effect in Central China,it is found that the information agglomeration degree of Central Plain urban agglomeration and Wuhan urban agglomeration is the highest, which are mainly concentrated in Zhengzhou and Wuhan respectively, showing a single center spatial structure. The information development level of Poyang Lake urban agglomeration and Chang Zhu Tan urban agglomeration is relatively balanced, showing a multi center spatial structure. The impact of information development on economic growth is higher than that of other urban agglomerations in Central China.Fifth, the spatial structure of urban agglomeration and the economic growth performance of its agglomeration scale in the central region affect each other. The economic growth benefits of informatization development not only affect the local, but also improve the economic development level of adjacent areas, with significant spatial spillover effect.Among the six major urban agglomerations in Central China,Wuhan urban agglomeration has the largest spatial spillover effect of informatization index, followed by Wanjiang urban belt. The possible innovations of this paper are as follows: first,it constructs the theoretical framework of the impact of informatization on the economic growth of urban agglomeration, demonstrates that the economic growth of urban agglomeration refers to the increase of national wealth within the space of urban agglomeration under specific technical conditions and institutional space, and the demonstration shows that the economic growth of urban agglomeration is the improvement of production efficiency of intensive comprehensive factors that play a decisive role in endogenous technological progress. There is a promotion mechanism for the impact of informatization on the economic growth of urban agglomeration, but there is a certain threshold.Second,it empirically studies the different impact effects of informatization on the economic growth of urban agglomerations in Central China through econometric models.Especially,it constructs a panel threshold regression model to explain that the impact of informatization on the economic growth of urban agglomerations has a greater jump around the threshold. It is found that the impact effect of informatization on economic growth is regulated by the threshold of income distribution, and that the economic growth quality spillover effect of informatization has a strong dependence on income distribution.Third,it is proposed that the positive impact of information development on the economic growth of urban agglomeration is based on the upgrading of industrial structure and the upgrading of urban innovation level. This paper constructs a recursive structural equation model of intermediary effect, and demonstrates that the upgrading of industrial structure and the development of innovation system of urban agglomeration are the concrete paths of informatization affecting the economic growth of urban agglomeration.
