Soundscapes and landscapes in urban parks can not only mask the acoustic information and sound energy of traffic sounds, but also improve the acoustic environment of urban parks. It is a kind of way that help users achieve a good state of psychological response. However, the related research in recent years israre, especially the sound masking mechanism based on psychological response is still unclear. Therefore, this study aims to clarify the target and demonstrate the method of masking by identifying the masking threshold of urban park soundscape based on the psychological response.Subsequently, the acoustic information masking mechanism of active sound sources to traffic sound and the sound energy masking mechanism of typical landscapes to traffic sounds was calculated. Finally, the acoustic environment in urban parks from the perspective of users’ psychological response state improvement was designed and optimized. In the initial research of acoustic masking effects in urban parks, soundscape masking factors that influence users’ psychological response were investigated and revealed applying the psychological walk method.Afterwards,it was determined that the proportion of traffic sound was the most critical factor(weight value 0.893)that influenced users’ psychological responses by using weight analysis. Therefore, masking traffic sounds was identified to be the most crucial task in this study.Based on the results of urban park’s soundscape threshold study, two approaches of masking traffic sounds: 1)masking the sound information of traffic sounds through positive sound sources and 2)masking the sound energy of traffic sounds through typical landscapes were identified for users’ psychology improvement. In terms of acoustic information masking effects, his research illustrated the relationship between traffic sounds and users’ psychological responses by applying sound stimulation to subjects in the laboratory, calculated the acoustic information masking effects of natural and musical sounds on traffic sounds, and examined the significance of activity sounds in urban park sound environments.Eventually, theoretical support for proposing urban park sound information masking solutions that improve users’ psychological response states were provided. As far as sound energy masking effect, his research first measured the sound energy masking effect of typical landscapes, identified the rigid landscape parameters and flexible landscape parameters affecting the sound energy masking effect of urban park landscapes, and then used COMSOL multi-physics field simulation software to establish the sound energy masking model of landscapes, and demonstrated the relationship between the rigid landscape parameters and flexible landscape parameters and the sound energy masking effect of landscapes. Finally, landscape design and optimization parameters to improve users’ psychological responses were proposed based on the relationship between traffic sounds and users’ psychological reactions. This research on the acoustic masking effect in urban parks based on the psychological response theoretically provided new potential approaches in the study of the acoustic environment of urban parks and practically proposed new ideas for design and optimization of margin landscapes of urban parks in China.
