Among the various materials in the study of Old Chinese phonology, phonetic compounds have received widespread attention from phonologists since the Qing Dynasty due to their quantitative and systematic advantages. It is of great value to the study of Old Chinese phonology, especially initials.Phonetic diagram is the most effective means of using phonetic compounds to study Old Chinese phonology, which can maximize the utility of phonetic compounds on the study of Old Chinese phonology,so it has always been valued by phonologists.Take a comprehensive view of the various kinds of phonetic diagrams available in the academic community, they can be roughly divided into two categories: the phonetic diagram of the handed-down text data and the phonetic diagram of the excavated text data.Among them, the former is such as Guangyun Shengxi edited by Shen Jianshi, and the latter is such as Guwenzi Puxishuzheng edited by Huang Dekuan.Compared with the handed-down texts, the excavated texts have preserved the glyph structure of Chinese characters and the version appearance of texts more realistically because they have not been tampered with by later generations. In addition, the newly seen glyphs of acient Chinese characters in the excavated texts can confirm and supplement the existing phonetic connections in the handed-down texts, which is of special significance to the study of Old Chinese phonology.Furthermore, the oracle bone inscriptions of the Shang Dynasty and the bronze inscriptions of the Western Zhou Dynasty cannot be compared with the excavated texts of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty in the study of Old Chinese phonology because of their relatively simple content and form.Based on the above considerations, the article chooses the Eastern Zhou Chinese characters as the main research object, and carries out the phonetic analysis and phonetic connections arrangement.Structurally speaking, this paper is mainly divided into three parts: introduction,Phonetic Diagram of Eastern Zhou Chinese Characters, and appendix.First of all,the introduction mainly explains the research status, the significance of topic selection, and the steps and methods, key points and difficulties of compiling the Phonetic Diagram of Eastern Zhou Chinese Characters.Secondly,Phonetic Diagram of Eastern Zhou Chinese Characters is the main content of the article, which draws on the successful experience of Guangyun Shengxi and Ancient Chinese Dictionary of Warring States Period in terms of style, and arranges the glyphs of the Eastern Zhou Chinese characters according to the standards of t raditional rhyme group, initial, phonetic element, phonetic connection and phonetic hierarchy.According to the research in this paper, there are a total of 12,479 Li-Ding glyphs and 853 phonetic series of Eastern Zhou Chinese characters. In addition,it should be noted that in order to compile a high-quality phonetic diagram,we also made the following two preliminary work: First,we absorbed the latest interpretation opinions of the paleography community and completed the Complete Table of Chinese Character Glyphs of Eastern Zhou;Second,we completed the font development of the "characters out of collection" of Eastern Zhou Chinese characters.Furthermore,in order to make the phonetic diagram play a greater role in the study of Old Chinese phonology, the "Phonetic Database of Eastern Zhou Chinese Characters" designed by us is gradually being completed. Finally,a few reading notes in the appendix are some of our thoughts in the process of sorting out the Complete Table of Chinese Character Glyphs of Eastern Zhou and the Phonetic Diagram of Eastern Zhou Chinese Characters, which can be regarded as a description of the phonetic connections arrangements of related characters in the Phonetic Diagram of Eastern Zhou Chinese Characters.
