The elements of military power are vital to a country’s participation in international competition for power, while geostrategy vividly interprets the spatial logic of the rise and fall of a country’s power.Starting from a long historical period,Japan, with its unique geopolitical attributes, has successively derived two behaviors, namely, the reformation and the warlike behavior due to the "Pan-Indo-Pacific" thinking. The loss of sovereignty caused by the defeat in World War II became the historical beginning of Japan’s national development being constrained by the “Post-war Regime”.With the strong development of the domestic economy, the strategic orientation of a powerful country by the sea power began to continuously promote Japan’s demand for "normal power".This strategic planning with "rejuvenating the military power" as the core has been continuously combined with the expansion of Japan’s geopolitical vision since the end of the Cold War.With the current momentum of shifting the center of international power to the "Indo-Pacific",formed the strategic logic of Japan breaks through the "Post-war Regime" to finally achieve "autonomy".With the increasingly fierce geopolitical competition among major powers in the "Indo-Pacific" era,Japan’s defense policy transformation is manifested as follows: First of all,Japan has achieved the transformation of its strategic decision mode, using a "commanded" approach to coordinate defense planning from a top-level perspective.Secondly, during the exploration of emerging war concepts,Japan has delineated defense functions and tasks, reshaped its military power formation,Form a dynamic trend that is strategic vision continuous come over the "Indo-Pacific" area. Finally,Japan has achieved the close connection between military development and the "Free and Open IndoPacific" strategy, and then rebuilt the core concept of defense policy.Based on the Abe administration’s "Indo-Pacific" strategy adding value to Japan’s revising constitution and strengthening the military power,in order to analyze how Japan’s defense policy transformation under the strategic vision of "Indo-Pacific" supports the reconstruction of the identity of an "autonomic sea power nation".This thesis is based on studying a large number of Japan’s official policy texts and domestic and foreign research materials, analyze the formation mechanism and strategic efficiency of Japan’s "Indo-Pacific" strategy, demonstrate the decision mode and new positioning of Japan’s defense domain, and the process of docking with the "Indo-Pacific" strategy, analyze the logical structure of the core concept of Japan’s defense policy, assess the domestic and international impact and development prospects of Japan’s defense policy,In order to understand the motivation of Japan’s "Indo-Pacific" strategy, further enhance the predictive interpretation of the evolution of Japan’s national security strategy and its defense policy.
