Entering the new era of socialist construction with Chinese characteristics, urban agglomeration has not only become the main form of China’s new urbanization, but also an important carrier for further expanding development space and rationally planning resource allocation. In order to promote a clearer urban spatial structure,a freer flow of urban resources, and a more coordinated urban function and industrial division of labor, the "urbanization" of urban agglomerations has officially been put on the agenda.Continuing to promote the "urbanization" construction of urban agglomerations not only relies on high-quality sociolect-economic collaboration, but also seeks stronger and higher-level service capabilities for regional higher education. As a newly emerging national metropolitan area, the "integration" construction of the dual urban economic circle in Chengdu-Chongqing region is still in the exploratory stage, and it is even more necessary to provide a strong guarantee for the high-quality coordinated development of regional higher education. However, the current development of higher education in the dual urban economic circle in Chengdu-Chongqing region lacks the much-needed spatial cohesion under the trend of "urbanization" of urban agglomerations, making it difficult to effectively promote high-quality collaboration between regional economies and society. This problem mainly stems from three aspects: First, the existing spatial layout of higher education in the Economic Circle is unreasonable, resulting in a gradually widening gap in the scale of higher education resources among regions, making it difficult to meet the development needs of "urbanization" of urban agglomerations.Secondly, there is a certain degree of spatial mismatch of higher education resources within each region within the Twin Cities Economic Circle, leading to a disconnect between the development of regional higher education and the social spatial characteristics and educational carrying capacity.Thirdly, the spatial integration of higher education resources with the advantage of collaborative development faces many deep-rooted institutional barriers and lacks the ability to respond to new challenges. At the same time, due to factors such as lagging theoretical research and short research cycles, the existing research on the development of educational space is relatively one-sided,with problems such as solidification of spatial cognition and disconnection from social space theory. In addition, the current research on the development of the Chengdu-Chongqing dual city economic circle focuses more on the coordination of social and economic aspects, and the only research focused on the development of higher education is relatively shallow,It is difficult to effectively guide the spatial governance of higher education in the Chengdu-Chongqing dual city economic circle.Based on this,it is necessary to explore how to effectively promote the coordinated development of higher education in the dual urban economic circle of Chengdu-Chongqing region under the trend of "urbanization" of modern urban agglomeration from the perspective of space, region, and higher education.First of all,the emergence of the "spatial turn",an important link in social science research, has prompted people to transform their understanding of "space" from a materialized "container" to an ontological factor, and space has begun to dominate the development of human society, profoundly affecting the process of social development in China in modern history, and has formed a connection with education in the current process of resolving basic contradictions in social development in China,There is a greater need to compensate for the shortcomings of their own development through education in the future.Further analyzing the dialectical relationship between space and education,it is found that although space carries the development of education, education is not a appendage of space, but also plays a key role in spatial production, and even affects the construction of hyperspace in human thought.Compared to the universal role of education in spatial production, higher education, due to its unique productivity and creativity, can not only promote the development of regional spatial integration, but also further solve the problem of uneven and insufficient spatial development in China, and can play a very strong role in promoting the realization of China’s regional spatial development strategy. This has also become the origin of the concept that the "integration" development of the Chengdu-Chongqing dual city economic circle must be achieved through spatial governance of higher education to promote high-quality coordinated regional development.Secondly, compared to the general development of regional higher education, the "urbanization" of the Chengdu-Chongqing dual city economic circle clearly puts forward some new development requirements for the development of regional higher education. This is mainly based on the fact that "urbanization in one city" is a new stage of urbanization based on geographical superiority, developed economy, convenient transportation, and cultural identity.Although it has many characteristics,it mainly includes three core elements: achieving a reasonable division of labor in the region, promoting the free flow of elements, and exploring collaborative innovation in systems. This has injected new development connotations into regional higher education in the context of the "urbanization" development of urban agglomerations: to grasp a more comprehensive "space region" perspective, seek a reasonable spatial shift in resource allocation, promote the mature "integration" development of regional higher education, and explore regional higher education evaluation methods with local awareness. After the theoretical perspective has gradually become clear, combined with the existing evaluation methods for the development of regional higher education, the layout of colleges and universities in the Chengdu-Chongqing dual city economic circle is investigated from the perspective of population, economy, and urban construction. It is found that currently, the regions with more reasonable layout of colleges and universities in the Chengdu-Chongqing dual city economic circle are mainly concentrated in the two core cities of Chengdu and Chongqing and the Mianle urban belt;In the urban areas of southern Sichuan, the layout of higher education in Luzhou City and Neijiang City tends to be saturated, while the layout of Yibin City and Zigong City still needs to be improved; In the southern Suining-Guangan urban area, the overall regional layout of higher education still needs to be improved; In Dawan Town District, the layout of higher education in Wanzhou District is reasonable, while Dazhou City still needs to achieve sustained growth in scale. At the same time,by measuring the carrying capacity of higher education in densely populated urban areas within the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle from three dimensions: the supporting capacity of regional higher education, the basic strength of regional higher education, and the development potential of regional higher education,it is found that the factors that have the greatest impact on the carrying capacity of higher education in each regional city are the per capital scientific research funds, the number of regional universities, and the number of research institutions; The influence of material resources represented by books, teaching facilities and equipment within institutions of higher learning takes second place.Based on this,by arranging the evaluation index of regional higher education carrying capacity,it is found that Chengdu and Chongqing are the cities with the highest carrying capacity of higher education;Due to its reliance on two major regions to develop core cities, the Mianle Urban Belt has become the region with the second highest carrying capacity for the development of higher education; The dense urban areas in southern Sichuan have a good carrying capacity, which is an important link in the future development pattern of higher education in the dual urban economic circle; The insufficient carrying capacity of higher education in the densely populated urban areas of Nan-sui-Guang is mainly related to the insufficient basic strength of its own higher education and the relatively backward demographic, economic and social conditions; In Dawan urban area, there is a two-level differentiation in the carrying capacity of higher education.Further comprehensive investigation and calculation results reveal that there are obvious spatial cruxes in the development of higher education in the dual city economic circle in Chengdu-Chongqing region: the layout of higher education does not match the carrying capacity of higher education in some regional cities, and the development of higher education is disconnected from the needs of regional social development; There is a large gap in the layout level of higher education among regions, and the adsorption effect of dual core cities is too strong, leading to insufficient radiation in secondary regions; The spatial flow of resources within the dual city economic circle between regions, between regions and universities, and between universities and colleges is limited, making it difficult to achieve deep integration of higher education resources.Due to the fact that the "integration" construction of the dual urban economic circle in Chengdu-Chongqing region is still in its early stages and lacks some experience in regional higher education spatial governance,it is necessary to refer to advanced cases of the development of higher education in existing urban agglomerations,on the basis of exploring and solving practical problems, make full use of its own latecomer advantages, and seek a path of higher education spatial governance that takes into account development experience and localization characteristics. Therefore, after analyzing the development experience of higher education in the San Francisco Bay Area of the United States, the Tokyo Bay Area of Japan, and the Yangtze River Delta region of China,it is found that the development of regional higher education should fully maintain its appropriateness with social space, follow the heterogeneity of regional social spatial distribution, and play a leading role in social spatial production,in order to exert its own value in the deep integration with regional social space. This provides important inspiration for opening up the space governance thinking for the development of higher education in latecomer regions. On this basis, the dual city economic circle in Chengdu-Chongqing region should fully integrate the current practical problems in the development of higher education, explore breaking the spatial opposition, and transform the solidified cognition of higher education;Optimize the spatial layout and promote the multi-level allocation effect of higher education resources;Comprehensive spatial carrying capacity, scientific construction of regional higher education ecosystem;Breaking through the fixed thinking pattern and promoting the joint construction and sharing of high-quality resources in regional higher education;Innovate institutional supply, improve long-term mechanisms for the development of higher education clusters, and other regional higher education spatial governance measures. With a view to achieving the efficient integration of the spatial development of higher education in the dual urban economic circle of Chengdu-Chongqing region, promoting the true integration of higher education development and regional social space, and continuing to empower the long-term development of the social and economic "integration" of urban agglomerations.
