Economic diplomacy is an act of economic intercourse with foreign countries by means of direct(or indirect)means to realize(or indirectly realize)the economic or political interests of the country.Generally speaking,The types of economic diplomacy can be divided into: economic assistance, economic cooperation and economic sanctions.Economic diplomacy was an important means for Japan to recover its economy and return to the international stage after the war.In the early post-war period,Japan suffered a severe economic recession and its international image was badly damaged.By means of economic compensation, economic assistance and economic cooperation,Japan achieved the goal of economic revival. Thus, economic diplomacy gradually became the main means of Japan’s post-war diplomacy. From the perspective of geopolitics and historical tradition,Japan and South Korea have been close neighbors since ancient times. The relations between Japan and Korea in ancient and modern times were very complicated under the influence of the order of Chinese and foreigners and the impact of the west. After modern times,Korea was once a colony of Japan. After World War II,Japan ended its colonial rule over Korea, and the two countries managed to normalize their diplomatic relations.Since the normalization of diplomatic relations, the two countries have been in serious opposition to each other on many occasions due to historical issues and territorial disputes. The current relationship between Japan and South Korea is facing a huge crisis because of Japan’s economic sanctions against South Korea. As an important neighbor of Japan, economic diplomacy to Korea has always been one of the focuses of Japan’s economic diplomacy. After Japan imposed economic sanctions on South Korea, the types, historical development and influencing factors of Japan’s economic diplomacy to South Korea have become an important topic in the study of Japan-South Korea relations.Economic sanctions against South Korea are one of the main means of Japan’s economic diplomacy towards South Korea. In addition to economic sanctions, over a long period of time, economic assistance and economic cooperation have been the main types and means of Japan’s economic diplomacy to Korea. After World War II,Japan’s economic diplomacy to South Korea has experienced a long historical development process. In the early post war period,Japan and South Korea were so antagonistic that official economic diplomacy could not be carried out,but there was a certain degree of civilian economic diplomacy at the civilian level.Official economic diplomacy developed rapidly after the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and South Korea.Japan’s economic aid diplomacy to South Korea began from the normalization of diplomatic relations between the two countries and ended in the 1990 s.Japan has made great contribution to the development of Korean economy by its economic aid diplomacy to Korea. From the 1980 s to the early 21 st century,Japan’s economic cooperation diplomacy to South Korea occupied the leading position of Japan’s economic diplomacy to South Korea, which had a great impact on the economic development of both countries. In 2019,Japan applied economic sanctions to South Korea, which made Japan’s economic diplomacy to South Korea enter a new stage.Economic sanctions diplomacy is a double-edged sword, which has a certain negative impact on both Japan and South Korea.By studying the history, types, and influence of Japan’s economic diplomacy to South Korea after the war,we can not only fully understand Japan’s diplomacy and Japan-South Korea relations,at the same time,it also brings some reference and enlightenment to the development of China’s foreign relations.
