| In the ranking of Japan’s foreign strategy,Japan Australia relations are a group of important bilateral relations, which determines that Japan’s economic diplomacy with Australia is different from other neighboring countries such as China. After World War II,Australia abandoned its sanctions claim under the domination of the U.S.East Asia strategy, and Japan-Australia relations were rapidly restored and developed, which became the historical starting point of Japan’s economic diplomacy with Australia. At the same time,Japan’s diplomatic ability was greatly reduced due to the limitations of its status as a defeated country. Therefore,it was a shortcut and strategic choice to promote economic diplomacy and expand its economic power and political influence by economic means and methods.Economic diplomacy was a means that Japan had to adopt in order to maintain, realize and expand its national interests under the constraints of specific historical conditions and domestic and foreign environments in the post-war period, and it has proven to be an effective way of diplomatic behavior. This paper firstly explores the historical basis of the development of economic diplomacy between the two countries by reviewing the historical development of Japan-Australia diplomacy.Japan-Australia relations were repaired and developed after the war,and it was also after the war that Japan began to implement its economic diplomacy strategy toward Australia. The second chapter retraces the development of economic diplomacy between Japan and Australia, and Japan-Australia economic diplomacy also faced different opportunities and challenges in different historical periods, especially before and after the Cold War when both sides experienced major changes and economic diplomatic relations were developed in a tortuous manner. The mechanism and types of Japan’s economic diplomacy with Australia directly affect the effectiveness of Japan-Australia economic diplomacy, and the Abe government’s economic diplomacy with Australia can be divided into economic cooperation diplomacy, resource and energy diplomacy and economic friction, which are discussed in Chapter 2 of the paper. The Abe government’s economic diplomacy with Australia can be divided into national strategy, economic development needs, and values diplomacy and Japan’s Indo-Pacific strategy, which influence the adjustment of Japan’s economic diplomatic relations with Australia. The changes in Japan-Australia economic and diplomatic relations, especially the economic diplomatic relations and cooperation between Japan and Australia during the Abe administration, also indicate that Australia is playing an increasingly important role in Japan’s path toward economic and political power, and the analysis of their characteristics, impacts and effects is of great significance for the development of China’s economic diplomacy in the new era. |
