After decades of efforts, the serial-scale map database has been preliminarily established in our country, and the focus of survey and mapping work changes from the production of initial data to data updating and service. The road data updating is an important part of map updating, and its workload is very huge for all the work. So the paper is aimed to find a way to reduce the repetition work and improve the efficiency of producting and updating data by making full use of existed data and fruit. The paper discusses the necessary steps of large-scale road data generalizing to small-scale, and a new model of multi-scale road data linkage updating is designed. The main research contents are as follows:1 analyzed the conception and connotation of multi-scale road data linkage updating, researched on the strategy and technical details of multi-scale road data linkage updating.2 Studied the transformation and unification of coordinate system and projection, unified data formats and codes, and set up the test system platform of multi-scale road data linkage updating.3 Designed a road matching method based on simple buffer zone and applied it to extract the incremental information of road data, proposed a rough method of incremental information based on the rules.4 Studied the technology to build topology of road network, designed a topology building method which is to build every local topology based on divided sub-region; Studied the technology of road automatically selecting, and a progressive road selecting method is proposed; Studied the technology of road automatically simplifying and improved the Dauglas-Peucker algorithm for road simplifying; Studied the technology of conflict detection and relationship treatment for road information.
