Chinese Geoscience Transects Sub-database is one of study topics of theproject of "The 3S structure database of Chinese Lithosphere"which is thespecial plan of the Ministry of Land and Resources. The object is to realizethe communication and sharing internationally of Geosciences Transects bythe construction of the database of Geoscience Transects on the platform ofArc/Info.The paper describes in detail the construction and implementation ofChinese Geoscience Transects Sub-database and the development ofManagement System. There are four parts in this paper:1. During of the project of the Research of Chinese GeoscienceDigital Graphics Library on the platform of MapGIS 6.0, GeoscienceTransects were digitalized in different levels, but no the same standard,including color, line style, symbols, classification, name, attribute structure,and so on. On the base of the GGT guidelines of ICL (InternationalCommittee of Lithosphere) and the actual situation of various transects, thepaper formulates the standard of Chinese Geoscience Transects Sub-database,Which is suitable for the database of MapGIS and Arc/Info. Based thestandard of Chinese Geoscience Transect Sub-database, "Slib"in MapGIS iscustomized; The Chinese Geoscience Transects Digital Graphics Library isreorganized and consummated.2. By the means of data conversion from MapGIS 6.0 to Arc/Info 8.0,Using basic data reorganized well on Chinese Geoscience Transects DigitalGraphics Library, Geoscicence Transects Information of spatial and attributeis kept in Arc/Info. Through the discussion of the correspondence between"Slib"in MapGIS and "Style"in Arc/Info, the "Style"of Chinese GeoscienceTransects Sub-database is customized and the Geoscicence Transects aresymbolized standard on the platform of Arc/Info.3. The Chinese Geoscience Transects information of spatial andattribute from the data conversion; The Lambert projection data of thegeological map, the gravity belt and the magnetic belt of every GeoscienceTransect; The JPG images exported to comply to the management systembased MO; The metadata about Geoscience Transects. The above four partsare standardized, forming the construction of Chinese Geoscience TransectsSub-database.4. The development of the management system of Chinese GeoscienceTransects Sub-database.Using the technical route of Delphi&MO&VBA,based on the platform of GIS software-Arc/Info 8.0 and SQL SERVER 2000database, in the environment of Delphi 7.0, the rich GIS factions are realized,including the visualization of the input, output, inquiry, maintenance andintegration about data of spatial, attribute and metadata. The result is the construction of Chinese Geoscience TransectsSub-database on the platform of Arc/Info 8.0 by the means that GeoscienceTransects data collected is put info the SQL SERVER 2000 database underthe standard of Chinese Geoscience Transects Sub-database. Moreover, onthe base of database, using the technical route of Delphi&MO&VBA, themanagement system of Chinese Geoscience Transects Sub-database isdeveloped, realizing the rich GIS functions, including map editing, viewmanagement, integrated inquiry, metadata view and input/output. The demonstration system of Chinese Geoscience Transects is the sub-the management system of Chinese Geoscience Transects Sub-database,developed on MO, operating being separated from Arc/Info system. Its objectis to potential clients which are interested in Geoscience Transects. Itsfunction is simple, only view and inquiry for parts of example data, showingthe structure and content of Geoscience Transects.
