The Establishment Of The Global Mineral Resources Information Database Based On ArcIMS

The paper deals with some issues on the construction of globalmineral resources information database and develops software based onArcIMS to share the information on the web. The results are as follows.Firstly the construction of global mineral resources informationdatabase is the primary work. The database constitutes four layers, i.e.global, continental, national and metollogenic layers. For each layer, thereexists four types of data, first is geographical data, the second geological,the third mineral deposits and the forth mining information. Differentlayers correspond varied scale. For example, the global layer correspondsthe map with the scale of 1:30M, the continental layer scaled 1:5M, thenational layer scaled 1:1M, and the metallogenic layer scaled 1:1M orlarger. Generally, the data type includes spot, line and polygone alongwith documents. The primary data comes from varied sources, but thequality of the data is reliable.Secondly, based on the analysis of the-art-of-the-state of data sharein the Web combined with the consideration of social need to theinformation, the paper developed the software to realize the functions ofdata share in the Web by use of WebGIS. The main technical stepsinclude: (1) uses the ArcIMS software achievement after the contrastexisting WebGIS product characteristic to develop the platform;(2) actsaccording to ArcIMS the architecture, carries on the functional design inthe whole to each module;(3) contrast client side development way effect,chooses the thin client side way to carry on the development, unifies thenewest AJAX technology, the improvement tradition development pattern,the effective enhancement client side experience, reduces the networktransmission the burden.In a word, the paper got the results by construction of global mineralresources information database that a software has been developed tomake the vast data be shared in the Web which lay the foundation oftechnology and platform for the further design of larger-scale data sharesoftware.
