Ants are a large group from insect fauna nowadays. According to statistics by doctor Barry Bolton of England in 1995, there are 16 subfamilies, 296 genera and 9538 species (not including subspecific names) of ants ever-recorded and existing at present all over the world, furthermore, many new species are discovered and published every year, it is estimated there are more than 15000 species throughout the world. China is one of the largest country in the world with varied topography and multiplex climate, so it is rich in ant species, but the completely taxonomic investigation is poor in most area. Henan Province is located in the centre of China, insect resource is very abundant. Two national nature reserves of Jigongshan and Funiushan in the province are located between two big water systems, the Changjiang River and the Huai River, where the climate is transiting from temperate to semi-tropical, and where the investigation of fauna and taxonomy of ants has been totally lack. So, carrying this study in the area is particularly significant. In view of this situation, the author, under the supervision of Prof Shanyi Zhou, carried out a systematic study on the fauna and taxonomy of ants in the two reserves, which relates directly theme of the dissertation for a master's degree.During the research, the auther went alone into remote mountainous area in the south and west of Henan Province and made a systemic collecting of ants. The time was from June 2005 to September 2005, lasting for 3 months; and the collecting spots mainly included Jigongshan mountaintop beauty spot, Wushengguan forestry centre, Lijiazhai forestry centre, Longyuwan national forest park, Shuaheguan beauty spot in Huangshian, Laojieling beauty spot and the around forestry erea. Totally, 500 bottles of specimens. Out of these specimens, over 1000 were made into dry specimens by pin-mounted and the remaining were soaked in ethyl alcohol. By identification and fauna analysis, all the speciesmens belong to 5 subfamilies, 27 genera and 79 species, among which 3 species are discovered firstly, 3 are recorded firstly in China, and 2 are not nominated yet. The 3 new species are: Tetramorium nanyangense,Aphaenogaster inerma,Aenictus xinyangensis. The 3 new recorded species in China are: Camponotus nawai Ito,Camponotus kiusiuensis Santschi,Camponotus nipponensis Santschi. In the faunastic analysis, based on natural environment and species distribution characteristics, and with reference to biogeographic delimitation of agricultural and forestry insects and other insect groups, all 79 ant species collected from Jigongshan and Funiushan were all divided into 3 groups: 7 belong to species of Palaeartic Kingdom, making up 8.86% of total species; 35species of Oriental Kingdom, making up 44.3%; 37 species belong to both Oriental and Palaeartic Kingdom, making up 46.84%. According study, the insects of Formicidae family in Jigongshan are with a obvious characteristic of Oriental Kingdom, and the Funiushan ants have the feature of changing from Palaeartic Kingdom to Oriental Kingdom. Among the 3 new species, 1 is collected from Jigongshan and the other 2 from Funiushan; while the 3 new recorded species for china, 2 are from Jigongshan and 1 from Funiushan. This study has primarily made clear the species and genera, and their distribution of the family Formicidae in Jigongshan and Funiushan. This is pilot work in the area, and this study provided an important base for correct identification, control, protection and utilization of the ant species; description of the new species is of great scientific significance, and contribute to enrich the knowledge of ant fauna in China and the world. This dissertation has about 80,000 Chinese words, with 5 figures and 4 new tables. In addition to the description of research results, the thesis also reviewed the protection and utilization for the family formicidae insects in Jigongshan and Funiushan, according to...
