The 3D GIS is one of the newest trends of the development of GIS science. Different from 2D GIS, 3D GIS provides human being more realistic feeling about the representation of natural world. It demonstrates various phenomena of geographic space with three-dimensional formation technology. Not only the horizontal relationships of spatial objects are represented, but also the vertical relationships of them are described and represented. With the maturity of 2D GIS data model and data structure's theory and technical, the graph study theory, database theory technology as well as computer virtual reality technology further development, the research of 3D modeling and visible engineering goes further and further, the demand of them become more and more intense, this made the integrate of all kinds of information based on the spatial reference comes true. This kind of multi-dimensional information integration impels the development of 3D GIS technology. 3D GIS can present the landscape and the landform vividly in front of the user, the user can feel the environment from many aspects, enables them feel they just on the sense. The establishment of 3D sight model is the foundation and key of the system.The main research of this article is the constructing and Implementation of the 3D Landscape modeling based on the platform of the ArcGIS Engine9.2 and the VS2005.NET program language. In this article, we put forward a design of 3D Landscape modeling aim at the categorization of the 3D model on the earth's surface. There are three modeling methods in this design:1. Create the 3D model automatically from 2D vector data;2. The input and utilize of model based on 3D modeling software;3. Use ArcGIS Engine 3D module to create Multipatch 3D model.We can get a better project by integrating the above three methods. Using the project, we successfully established a virtual digital campus 3D landscape system; this fully explained the achievement's usability after the system testing.There are two innovative aspects of the research:(1). In this article, we put forward a design of 3D Landscape modeling based on the platform of ArcGIS Engine, and illuminate the theoretic and the modeling methods of the design. Not only could this design decrease the difficult of the development and reduce the system development period, and also could construct a system which has a strong function of querying and analysis;(2). In this article, we put forward a method of 3D Landscape modeling aim at the categorization of the 3D model on the earth's surface after studying the spatial characteristic and the nature properties of the 3D thing on the earth's surface and the arithmetic of the 3D Landscape modeling based on the platform of the ArcGIS Engine. In the last, we find a new method for the quickly constructing of the 3D Landscape system in a large-scale world.
