The traditional two-dimensional GIS only represents spatial relationships on two-dimensional surface. In contrast, three-dimensional GIS provides human more objective description and shows the real geographical world, and it gives rise to three-dimensional modeling of visual experience to demonstrate the geo-spatial phenomena. Also can operate the three-dimensional objects in GIS spatial analysis.3D GIS is currently one of the newest tredency of the development of GIS science.This thesis selects Xi'an University of Technology Lintong campus for the experimental area, uses the 3DS MAX modeling software to establish the campus surface features models, Then creates the models with texture, converts them to the Multipatch format, stores them in the Geodatabase. At the same time, according to the campus terrain data, uses the language VB.NET to create campus DEM model. Finally, based on the development platform ArcEngine which ArcGIS provides to establish campus three-dimensional system. The system provides the functions such like roaming, attribuate query and statistical analysis.This thesis consists of 7 chapters. Chapter One is an introduction, describes the research background, has summarized the three-dimensional GIS in the field of research direction and progress. and has proposed research objectives and the main content. Chapter Two describes the data acquisition and quality control, introduces the surface features of data, terrain data and texture data access methods and their quality control. Chapter Three introduces using 3DS MAX to create models and using methods of texture mapping. Chapter Four introduces the principle of terrain modeling and methods. Chapter Five describes the method of converting 3DS format to Multipatch and creates Geodatabase database. Chapter Six introduces the establishment of three-dimensional school system based on ArcEngine. Chapter Seven is the summary and outlook of this thesis.
