Geographic Markup Language proposed by Open Geospatial Consortium, is an encoding specification based on XML for geographic information. It is platform-neutral and can provides an universal framework for modeling, transporting and storing the spatial and the non-spatial properties of geographic features. So it can offer an efficient resolution for the sharing and interoperating of spatial data. And GML also leads today's prevalent WebGIS technology to a brand-new way. GML has now been showing us more and more advantages. However, the emergence of tremendous number of GML data brings on one problem to GIS field, namely, how to storing the GML data. Nowadays, although scholars domestic and overseas have done quantitative research on this, many fruits they have got are still on the stage of experimenting. That's to say, there's still no proverbial storage strategy. Integrating XML database technology, this paper did a deep research on GML storage strategy based on Oracle XML DB, and tried to offer the implemented GML storing service module under OGC's OpenGIS Web Service framework.GML is an encoding specification for geographic information based on XML. So a deep learning of GML specification and the advantage of XML database technology can provide an academic foundation for the developing of GML database. Chapter 2 and 3 introduced relative theory and technology.Present there are no explicit definitions and architectures of GML storage. This paper advanced one method for GML data based Oracle XML DB technology after the analysis of relative technology and designed the GML database. That's the content of chapter 4.Following is the construction of GML application service model based on the implementing specification for geogrphic information web service of OGC. This part also described a GML storing service. In the end, chapter 6 summarized all the content of this paper, and also made a prospect for the next researching plan.
