The Analytic hierarchy process (AHP) was introduced in middle 1970s by American professor T. L. Saaty, who made researches on Operations Analysis in Pittsburgh University. It is a scientific method of decision making, which combines the qualitative judgment and quantitative analysis. With the development of society, due to the simplicity and practicability in solving problems, AHP has been widely applied in city programming, economic engineering and evaluating results of scientific researches, etc. With the development of social economy and continuous raise of people's standard of living, many people have been taking vehicle in place of walking step by step, but they are obsessed with buying new car or used motor vehicles. This study starts with the performance evaluation of the secondhand car at home and abroad and evaluation method about it nowadays, namely, current market value method, benefit in present valve method, replacement cost method and clearing price method, then it tells usable condition of every method and their advantages and disadvantages. This study explores the theory of AHP and its steps of use systematically, and models by making use of AHP according to three aspects about how to evaluate performance of used motor vehicles.Through analyzing the practical situation, this study verified AHP model. It proposes a method on how to evaluate the used motor vehicles scientifically, which can solve the problems of judging comprehensive performance of different cars.
