Environmental problem is of common interest currently, and it is vital to the human development in the future. According to the research situation and its disadvantage, this dissertation emphasizes the importance of environmental awareness in the environmental protection, the importance of environmental education on the cultivation of environmental awareness, as well as the important role played by colleges and universities. This dissertation sets up a system of evaluation indexes, and presents an evaluation model based on the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP). Firstly, the current research situation both at home and abroad is reviewed, the disadvantage of current environmental education is analyzed, and thus the research focus, content, and research route are proposed.Secondly, the environmental awareness and environmental education are studied. The importance of environmental awareness is discussed, and its formation is detailed from the aspects of concept and connotation. It is pointed out that environmental education is an important means of improving environmental awareness, and the important role played by colleges and universities is emphasized. The main forms of environmental education are summed up, and the necessity and suggestions for the promotion of environmental education are proposed.Thirdly, based on the related documents in China and research results both at home and abroad, the system of evaluation index by Delphi Method for environmental education in universities is set up, which consists of 4 first-class indexes including capacity of organizational leadership, environmental education, environmental education practice and environmental education achievements, 12 second-class indexes, and 28 third-class indexes. The system of indexes takes the all parts of educational research in universities into consideration scientifically, systematically, and practically, with emphasis on evaluation of environmental awareness.At last, an evaluation model for environmental education in colleges and universities is proposed based on fuzzy AHP. This model adopts fuzzy AHP to determine the weights of indexes, thus avoids the trouble of consistency check; the matrixes of fuzzy membership are solved, and according to the maximum membership degree principle, the levels of environmental education in colleges and universities are calculated. A case study is given finally. This method is concise and easy to carry out, and it can obtain the levels of environmental education in colleges and universities directly, analyze the advantages and disadvantages of current environment-related work clearly, thus it is helpful for the improvement in the future.
