Since 1960s, phosphate detergent builder represented by sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP) had been widely used in synthetic detergent industry, and it also caused a series of environmental pollution problems such as "eutrophication" of water. As people's awareness of environmental protection increasing, developing and studying on new phosphate-free detergent builder to replace STPP has been an urgent and important task. For the present, among the new developed phosphate-free detergent builder, silicate is a type of cheap and frequently used inorganic builder, and acrylic copolymer is regarded as the most potential organic builder. If the above two types of builder can be used together, organic and inorganic complex properties will be achieved. What's more, if the granularity of silicate can be controlled in nano size, the properties of the builder will be increased greatly and its application field will also be expanded, because nanoparticles will give it some new characteristic on the base of the complex properties.In this article, at first, nano SiOi water-dispersion was prepared by traditional silicon method, and in the medium of this solution, nano SiO2 / acrylic copolymer complex phosphate-free detergent builder was prepared by acrylate and maleic anhydride, with the base of "compounding in situ". TEM photos indicated that, silicate and acrylic copolymer had been mixed uniformly on nano level in the builder. Influences of the properties of the builder caused by preparing technique of nanoparticles , the conditions of the polymeric reaction and the ratio of acrylate and maleic anhydride were studied in detail. Secondly, nano silicate / acrylic copolymer complex phosphate-free detergent builder was prepared by montmorillonite, acrylate and maleic anhydride, with the base of intercalation compounding.Influences of the microstructure and properties of the builder caused by intercalation technique, the conditions of the polymeric reaction and the ratio of material were also studied by IR, XRD, TEM, SEM, etc. At last, the prepared builder was used to mix detergent powder, and the optimal formulation of the detergent powder was confirmed. At the same time, the industrialized prospect of the builder was researched preliminarily.Nano silicate / acrylic copolymer complex phosphate-free detergent builder prepared in this article was provided with complex properties of inorganic silicate and organic acrylic copolymer detergent builder, and nanoparticles was introduced to detergent builder firstly. The synthetic properties of the product was increased greatly because of the cooperative effect of nano effect and organic-inorganic compounding effect, so its application in the future would be very wide.
