As a kind of special macrocyclic compounds, porphysins have recently received more and more attention from many investigator in various fields, such as electrochemistry, photophysics, photochemistry, analytical chemistry and biomimetic chemistry.we improved the method of Adler, and prepared a series of 5,10,15,20-tetra(4-alkoxyphenyl)porphyrins(T(4-ROP)P) and their Fe Mn Cd complexes. Among them there were sixteen new compound which were not reported before. All these compounds were identified through IR, UV, 1H NMR, MS and Element analysis.We studied these reactions, and synthesis condition of metalloporphyrins was improved.. A simple and convenient method was presented to purify the complexes with four long alkoxy chains. We concluded the method to decide whether the chelating reaction had happened using IR, UV, and 1H NMR. The liquid-crystal properties of T(4-ROP)P and their metal derivatives were studied through DSC and polarized-light microscope. We found threeteen metallo-porphyrins have liquid-crystal phase. The influences of length of alkoxy chains and metal on the reaction, spectra and liquid crystal aspects of metallo-porphyrins was discussed. Our research will be very important in both theoretical study and practical application.
