As a kind of special macrocyclic compounds, porphyrins have twelve active position which can relation to different flexible side chain, what is more, we may adjust the length of molecular and diameter thickness. Therefore, we can design to synthesize new porphyrin liquid crystal materials by leading into flexible side group in porphyrin periphery. We improved the mothed of Adler, and prepared a sieres of 5,10,15,20-tetra(2-alkoxyphenyl)porphyrins[T(2-ROP)PH2] and their Ni,Mn,Pb,Fe complexes. Among them there were fourty new com -pounds which were not reported before. All these compounds were identified through 1H NMR,MS,IR,UV .The correlation between the structure of compounds and 1H NMR,MS,IR,UV spectra was studied and their specific spectra were explained,and the criteria of porphyrins and their complexes was summarized.We studied these reactions, and improved metalloporphyrins synthesis condition. A simple and convenient method was presented to purify the complexes. We used the criterion of 1H NMR,MS,IR,UV and concluded whether porphyrin react with metal salt. The liquid crystalline properties of T(2-ROP)PH2 and their metal derivatives were studied through DSC and polarized-light microscope. We found twelve compounds exhibited liquid crystalline behaviour. They had one to three mesophases and certain phase transition temperature,â–³Hand temperature range of L.C.(â–³T). They all showed as heating monotropic liquid crystal.The influences of metal ion on the reation, spectra and liquid crystalline aspects of metalloporphyrins were discussed. Our research will be very important in both theoretical study and practical application.
