High-performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) was applied foranalyzing the chemical compositions in the following three differentchemical reactions.1, Taking hydrogen peroxide as an oxidant, 2,2-bis (hydroxymethyl)-propionic aldehyde, which is formed by the aldol condensation from formaldehyde with propionic aldehyde, is oxidized, and then 2,2-bis (hydroxymethyl)-propionic acid is obtained. A HPLC method separating the various chemical components in the reaction was established. Column, Shim-pack VP-ODS (150 X 4.6mm ID); mobile phase, methanol-0.03mol/l potassium dihydrogen phosphate(5: 95, V/V)with pH being 4.00; the wavelength of UV detector at 205nm.2, Another HPLC was applied to develop a simple and rapid technique for separating the mixture system of reactants and products in oxidized 2,2-bis(hydroxymethyl)-butyric aldehyde. And the optimal chromatographic conditions are established. Column, Shim-pack VP-ODS (150 X 4.6mm ID); mobile phase, acemethanol-0.01mol/1 potassium dihydrogen phosphate(1: 9, V/V)with pH being 4.00; the wavelength of UV detector at 206nm. Also the quantitative analysiscurve of both acids is determined respectively. 3 , Several underivatized HPLC methods for analysing and separating thesystem is explored, through which serine can be gotten after thereaction of glycin with formaldehyde .Also, the first method is already applied industrial analysis Saimeike Chemical Corporation successfully.
