Azo dye is the maximal species in dye production, broadly applied in various fibrous dyeing. But the azo dye with cancer-causing aroma-amine touched with human body skin over a long period of time, can mix with materials which normal metabolism releases to and is deoxidized to the original aroma-amine because azo bond is cut off. Therefore twenty-two kinds of cancer-causing aroma-amines have been forbidden to use, among them biphenylamine has the biggest affect to the dyestuff industry. Since biphenylamine was banned, the main research focuses on the synthesis of the other type of azo dye which can replace these cancer-causing compounds. In this thesis, we studied this kind of substitute, including three points as following.1. Eight sulfonamide dye intermediates, six of which weren't reported by documents, have been prepared and characterized by E.A, IR, 'HNMR, and MS. They can displace carcinogenic dye intermediate diphenylamine.2. Two series of diazo direct dyes were synthesized by using two prepared compounds as diazo component and naphthyl intermediate as coupling component, respectively. The relationship between dye's structure and spectrum capability was investigated by using the visible absorption spectra.3. These dyes' dyeing properties on leather and textile were investigated. They are found to have good appetency and surface color up abilities on leather.
