With regard to poor wet rubbing fastness of cotton fabric with reactive dyes, in this paper, through macromonomer radical copolymerization, water polyurethane-acrylate(PUA) hybrid latexes were synthesized by toluene-2,4-diisocyanate(TDI), polyethylene glycol 1000,dimethylol propionic acid (DMPA), methyl acrylate (MA) and so on as a novel fixing agent.The effects of the factors, such as NCO/OH, DMPA, on particle size, viscosity, stability of dispersion and tensile properties, water absorption of emulsion-cast film were studied. The structure of copolymer'films was characterized by ATR,TG.PUA was applied on cotton finishing, the influence of dosage of finishing agent, curing temperature, curing time was investigated and the optimized finishing processes was acquired. Washability of finishing effects, colour cast ,breathability, strength and elongation, hand values, fastness to light of treated and untreated fabric were tested, and analysis of FT-IR,TG were carried out.The results show that PUA hybrid latexes had good stability and the copolymer'films had nice mechanical properties. After finishing, rubbing fastness, soaping fastness, fastness to light increased while the breaking strength and elongation of fabric decreased. Hand values and colour cast of fabric changed, but did little effect on wearability.In addition, the figures of TG of treated and untreated fibers show that the temperature of thermal decomposition increased after finishing, it means that thermal stability of fabric upgraded. Moreover, tests of FT-IR spectra show that the stretching-vibration-absorption-peak positions of some groups are significantly deviated. The absorption peaks of new groups are found in the FT-IR spectra.
