The Basic Theory And Practical Approach Of Eco-city

Establishing Eco-city is an important approach to the sustainabledevelopment of cities and its surrounding area. Since the concept of eco-citywas brought forward by the Man-and-Biology project of United Nation in theearly 1970's, there has been a great progress in the theory and practiceresearch of eco-city in the world. China is now in a critical period of social transformation with a fastimplemented urbanization. Lots of Chinese cities are seeking feasible methodsto solve the problems such as resource exhausting, population pressure andenvironment deteriorated during their development. The theory and practiceresearch of eco-city provide an available way to promote the coordinateddevelopment of society, economy and environment in cities and its surroundingarea. Based on the achievements of researches on eco-city at home and abroad,this thesis focuses on the basic theory and practical approach of eco-city. Themain content includes: discussing the essential meaning and time missions ofeco-city; analyzing the evolutionary mechanism of eco-city with the principle ofsystem science and ecology, and propounding the basic rules on eco-cityassessment; establishing a framework about the theory and methods of eco-cityconstruction with meta-synthesis principle, pursuing structural harmony andequilibrium in the development of city compound ecosystem; at last, giving thecountermeasures of Wenzhou eco-city's construction.
