With the rapid development and globalization of economy, the global environmental problems become more and more prominent. The demands of the international competition, the requests of the national policies and the expectation of the social public make organizations pay more attention to their environmental performances and environmental images. So they hope to standardize their environmental management by a standardized and systematized method in order to survive and develop. ISO 14000 comes into being under the situation.Firstly, this paper introduces the background, construction and characters of ISO 14000 and the significance and functions of implementing. Secondly, the paper analyzes the benefits of society, environment and economy by implementing ISO 14001 and presents the appliance principles. Based on the analysis of the architecture and running mode of ISO 14001, the paper introduces its system structure and function model and process model. Thirdly, the paper discusses the methods and principles of identifying environmental aspects and determining important environmental aspects and use multi-factor assessment and improved AHP to quantitatively determine important environmental aspects. At last, the paper introduces the framework and the function of the software of HFUT-ISO14001 by which the process of identifying environmental aspects and determining important environmental aspects is approached.
