There are two serious problems in recirculating cooling water system: corrosion and scale. The most common solution is adding corrosion and scale inhibitor in cooling water. But the cost of most inhibitors is too high, and they also cannot meet the more and more strict requirements of environmental protection. 2-hydroxyphonoacetic acid(HPAA) is an excellent organic water stabilizer, having remarkable ability to inhibit corrosion and scale deposition. In this dissertation, at first, we improved the method of HPAA's composition based on the former research and the HPAA's molecule structure according to the relative theory about corrosion inhibition. Then referring to the national professional standards, we carried out a series of experiments to test the HPAA's performance on inhibition corrosion and scale and stabilization compared with HEDP. After many experiments, we discovered that the addition of a mixture of HPAA and WO42, Zn2+, PESA, CrO42- significantly improves the protection of iron in cooling water system. So using homogenize design theory we arranged the experiment and found that the composition consisting of HPAA24mg/L, WO4212 mg/L, Zn2+2 mg/L, PESA14 mg/L, BTA1.5 mg/L is an excellent corrosion and scale inhibitor. In the end, we discussed the inhibiting corrosion and scale principle of the composition.
