The programmable controller (PLC) is a kind of universal industrial control apparatus, which takes microprocessor as its core, and integrates microcomputer technology, automation technology and communication technology. The content that this paper studied is to make use of PLC technology to realize the intelligent transformation of the ordinary lathe, redesign the electric control system, apply the latest control technology and network communication technology to the lathe transform, and improve the stability of the lathe system and machining accuracy.This paper summarizes the general structure of PLC control system and network communication principle, puts forward the principle, content and step of PLC control system designing, and summarizes the rules for designing PLC Ladder diagram with transplant method. With the transforming of ground borer T6220, this paper introduces the design method of PLC control system and realized course. New technologies such as servo controlling and PPI network communication, etc. are applied to the control system of the lathe transformation. It also has proposed the precautions while transforming.According to the demand of the 4M Vertical Lathe control system, this paper has studies Siemens' S7-200 series PLC serial communication technology, made the free port mode communication protocol between PLC, and provided some codes which realize this protocol. Through the free port mode communication protocol, accelerate the speed of communication between PLC, has met the systematic demand.At last, this paper summarizes the advantages and disadvantages of the lathes transformationwith PLC, and proposes the designing thought of management and control integrative system inmachine shop.
